Accutron 214 spaceview movements

Swiss Spaceview Movements

The Swiss Accutron Spaceviews specifically used either the 214H or 2141 stamped movements. This designates that they had a hacking spring installed from the factory. The hack spring stops the sweep second hand while setting the time.  From the early 1960's to around 1969, the Swiss spaceviews used movements stamped 214H. From around 1969 onward the movements were stamped "2141".  Note the early swiss movements were nickel plated with gold wash lettering and stamped "Swiss Made". Pictured is a Swiss 1964 214H, note the M4 date code on the right below the battery well.

Later Swiss spaceviews

Later Swiss Spaceviews from around 1969 onward used gold toned movements and changed  the hacking designation from 214H to 2141. These later Swiss movements were stamped "Swiss Made" and "Brevet-Patent". Pictured 1s a 2141 movement from a 1969 Swiss Spaceview, note the M9 date code to the right below the battery well.

The hack spring

The hack spring referred to for the Swiss 214H and 2141 movements is encircled in the adjacent photo. As mentioned above, it functions in stopping the sweep second hand while setting the time to get a more precise setting. All Swiss Spaceviews had a hack spring.

USA Spaceview movements

Factory USA Spaceview movements were all 214 (non-hacking) The adjacent photo shows a 1971 214 movement out of a US Spaceview. Early, 1960 to 1969 US movements were nickel plated. From 1969 on they were gold toned. Note that they are stamped "U.S.A.". Another difference between the USA and Swiss movements is the date code placement. On USA movements, date codes are typically stamped at the 12:00 position on the back of the movement, this one is stamped N1 for 1971 at 12:00.

The USA Non-hacking movement

The hack spring referred to for the Swiss 214H and 2141 movements above is absent from this 1971 USA 214 movement. Encircled is the setting spring without a hack spring. Refer to the hack spring in a previous image for comparison.
